Eating for Results

Eating right is arguably more important than actually training when it comes to making forward progress. Digesting proper nutrients is key in ensuring that your body can function at capacity. Otherwise your workouts will be less productive and efficient. Your body won’t have the energy to get those last few reps in. Make sure you’re eating right and giving your body the energy and nutrients it needs to perform in your workouts and in life.

I have gone through phases where I eat really terribly, and really great. Across these two phases there is a dramatic difference in how I perform in sports and workouts. I love to play basketball. If I eat a poor dinner one night, and then follow it up with a big, yummy dessert, and then I play basketball the next day I always play terribly. I can’t find my shot, I’m out of breath, I make misreads, I sleep on defense, and I end up letting everything fester and lose my head. Now say I eat a great dinner the night before I play: chicken, rice, peas, maybe some corn, glass of milk, water, and follow it up with a PB&J for dessert. I feel like a different animal on the court. The brain is clear, vision is sharp, I run the floor with pace, the shots fall (and if I miss one it doesn’t get to me because I feel confident regardless).

Proper nutrients heightens your mentality. Your confidence will be immovable. In sports you will see situations clearly, make proper reads, feel more connected with your body, and get less tired. In workouts you’ll feel like a beast compared to when you don’t eat correctly.

Training and athletics aside, you will feel happier in life. Treat yourself right!
